For all the talk about what percentage of Renault's budget is derived from having Petrov in the second car, the fact remains that he was the one driver regularly capable of giving Nico Hulkenberg a hard time in GP2 last year.

He's relatively inexperienced as F1 rookies go - you'll find few other drivers on the grid who have never sat in a kart, and there's probably not many who didn't know how to left-foot brake until 2007 either.

But he is a quick learner who won't be remotely fazed by his surroundings, so expect his performances to pick up as the season goes on.
